The Power of Meeting

The idea of meeting has something almost sacred, transform something daily in a ritual. It could be having the vermouth, picking water at the village fountain or the river, or reunite spiritually with someone we have lost around a tomb.

They are meetings with people we know, so the feelings and emotions we share are more intense. And skipping one of this meetings has social connotations more important than the others.

The Urban Space

El Clot stands out among the unique areas of Barcelona that have yet to experience the full impact of tourism. Its primary motto, “fem barri,” embodies the spirit of community building. The district holds a certain magical allure, preserving the essence of a bygone era.

While El Clot serves as a commercial hub, its social aspect holds significant importance. Activities like participating in the cherished “Vermouth time” are vital for locals. The commercial landscape can be categorized into various segments based on the services they offer, including dining and drinking establishments, retail shops, and other service providers.

The diagram below highlights the main eating and drinking establishments in the area.

The Project

Upon analyzing the situation in and around Carrer del Clot, we sought to leverage its inherent strengths. Our objective is not to alter the area, but rather to enhance the existing emotions that permeate the space, fostering stronger connections between the local community and the urban environment.

Taking all these factors into consideration, our proposal involves the adaptation of a portion of the infrastructure, specifically the urban furniture, with the aim of preserving the essence of “fem barri” while incorporating cultural elements. We will focus on two main areas of action:

Urban Furniture (Primary Focus): We will prioritize the modification and enhancement of existing urban furniture to align with the concept of “fem barri” and infuse it with cultural significance. This will serve as the main aspect of our design strategy.

Pavement Intervention (Secondary Focus): In addition to the urban furniture, we will also implement targeted pavement interventions to complement and support the overall concept. While this aspect will serve as a secondary line of action, it will contribute to the cohesive and immersive experience of the space
